Our History

The Prophetstown Boosters organization was established in 1927 with its primary objective to promote and better the Prophetstown community. The Boosters also initiated the use of Booster Bucks (gift certificates) to encourage shopping in Prophetstown. Through the years, this initiative has changed names to reflect the organization, as in Main Street Bucks and Prophetstown Proud Bucks, but remains the same in purpose.

After many months of work by community and business leaders, Prophetstown became an Illinois Main Street Community in 1993. This program was established as a way to address the myriad issues facing older and historic downtowns. The Main Street movement grew out of a recognition that downtowns are the heart of our communities and a community is only as strong as its core.

In an effort to include the entire community and all our businesses, the Prophetstown Main Street Board began working to revitalize to a new organization on October 27, 2020. Prohetstown Proud was chosen as the new name in an on-line poll with 55 percent of the votes.
